Wizard of Oz at Sphere Crosses $400 Million as Rocky Horror Joins the 2027 Lineup
Published July 1, 2026
Sphere Entertainment announced production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere, a new addition to The Sphere Experience slate that will use the venue’s signature technology to reimagine the 1975 cult classic. The show joins Sphere’s slate of original content and is expected to open sometime in 2027. Until then, Wizard of Oz at Sphere tickets remain the way to experience the venue’s current headlining production, showing daily with times that vary.
Sphere Builds Out Its Immersive Slate
Rocky Horror will use Sphere Studios’ technology to enhance the original 1975 film, a cult classic famous for its rowdy midnight showings and audience participation. The movie, adapted by Richard O’Brien from his own stage musical, follows a newly engaged couple who stumble into the world of Dr. Frank-N-Furter after their car breaks down. Sphere Entertainment chairman and CEO Jim Dolan said the studio is building “a slate of original experiences that push the boundaries of technology and storytelling,” keeping the audience at the center. The new production joins Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard From Earth and The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, giving the venue three original immersive titles once it opens. No presale date, ticket pricing, or exact 2027 opening date has been announced yet, so visitors planning a trip in the meantime have plenty of time to catch the current lineup of Las Vegas production shows.
Wizard of Oz Is Still Sphere’s Reigning Hit
The Rocky Horror announcement comes as The Wizard of Oz at Sphere hits a real milestone: more than 3 million tickets sold and over $400 million in revenue since it opened on Aug. 28, 2025, according to Variety. The $100 million production reimagines the 1939 classic with the venue’s wraparound screen, and it’s the show that proved Sphere’s original-content model works. Tickets currently start at $123 for daily performances, with showtimes that vary by date.
What This Means for Your Vegas Trip
Rocky Horror is more than a year out, so there’s no reason to wait on Sphere. Pair a Wizard of Oz showtime with a Strip hotel stay near the venue, since Sphere sits just off the Strip behind The Venetian, and traffic around showtimes gets heavy fast. Build the visit into a full night out by booking dinner beforehand and a second show after, since a Sphere visit alone typically leaves you free by early evening. If you want another spectacle-driven production on the same trip, Awakening tickets at Wynn Las Vegas start at $82 and run most nights of the week, giving you a second immersive show without adding a second night to the itinerary.
