Fisher Brothers Submits A 50-Acre Arena Plan West Of I-15 For An NBA Expansion Bid
Published October 13, 2026
The developer behind AREA15 is pitching an NBA-ready arena on 50 acres it owns west of Interstate 15, on land between AREA15 and Palace Station. Fisher Brothers submitted the proposal to the NBA and says the building would seat 18,000 to 20,000 people, sized to whatever an expansion group asks for. Las Vegas still does not have an NBA team, and the city is years from getting a building. The land next to it, though, is already the busiest immersive entertainment district in Vegas.
A 50-Acre Site With The Infrastructure Already In
Fisher Brothers owns 80 acres in Las Vegas and has spent about $18 million on infrastructure for this parcel alone: a 16-inch water main, a 21-inch sewer main, and 40.5 megavolt-amperes of dedicated power capacity. The site also sits in a redevelopment area and a federal Opportunity Zone, and $140 million in economic incentives has been authorized through the Tourism Improvement District program.
That groundwork is why this bid reads differently from the arena proposals that surface every few years. The site sits next to AREA15’s 30-acre complex, so the arena would extend an existing district rather than start a new one from nothing. If you have been to AREA15, you already know the footprint the plan is talking about.
What An NBA Team Would Actually Change
Three ownership groups remain finalists: one led by Bill Foley and Jerry Colangelo, one from Nancy Walton Laurie and Bill Laurie, and one from Marc Lasry and Steve Apostolopoulos. Reported expansion fees and arena construction together sit around $12 to $13 billion.
For visitors, the practical change is calendar, not seats. An NBA team means 41 home dates a year landing in a city that already runs on event weekends, and game nights would compete with everything else on the Strip for hotel rooms and restaurant tables. Mayor Shelley Berkley has backed the proposal, but no timeline has been set and the NBA has not committed to expanding.
AREA15 Is Already Open Next Door
None of this is a reason to wait. The district the arena would sit beside is fully built and running today. Omega Mart at Meow Wolf anchors it, the Museum of Ice Cream opened its largest location there in July 2026, and Universal Horror Unleashed runs year round.
Pair it with a show later the same evening. The complex sits west of Interstate 15, a short drive from the Strip, which makes it easy to do in the late afternoon and still make an 8 p.m. curtain. An AREA15 Experience Pass is the cheapest way to see the complex without committing to one attraction.
Plan The Vegas Trip You Can Take Now
An NBA arena in Las Vegas is a maybe. AREA15 is a today. Book the attractions you can actually walk into this month, and leave the arena speculation for whenever the league makes a call.
