Zak Bagans Buys the 1978 Underground House, About 26 Feet Below Las Vegas, for $4.55 Million

Published October 7, 2026

Zak Bagans, the “Ghost Adventures” host, bought the Las Vegas Underground House for $4.55 million, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and KTNV reports the sale closed Monday. He plans to turn the Cold War-era bunker home into a museum and shoot an original documentary there. No opening date has been announced, so there is nothing to book at 3970 Spencer Street yet. If the haunted side of Vegas is what draws you, there is a Haunted Brunch at the Rio you can reserve now.

What Bagans Plans For 3970 Spencer Street

The seller was the Stasis Foundation, a biochemical group known for cryogenic preservation research. Bagans says he wants to open the property to the public, and the Review-Journal reports plans for a museum and a documentary feature. He called it “one of the most historic houses ever built in America.”

Reports put the home about 26 feet below street level, roughly three stories, with around 16,000 square feet in total. KTNV lists 14,620 square feet of that as underground, on a lot of more than an acre near Flamingo Road. Details on tours, ticketing, or hours have not been released, and we will not guess at them.

Inside the Atomitat Jerry Henderson Built

Avon executive Girard “Jerry” Henderson completed the place in 1978 as a fallout shelter you could actually live in. Architect Jay Swayze’s “Atomitat” concept, short for atomic habitat, shaped the design. The Review-Journal reports Henderson spent about $10 million on it.

Reports describe painted skies, hand-painted landscape murals, waterfalls, a nightclub-style dance floor and bar, a putting green, two spas, a sauna, and a pool, all sealed below the surface with original 1970s interiors. Bagans told reporters the “1970s time capsule” stays with you once you go down there.

Haunted Vegas Nights While The Bunker Stays Closed

Bagans already runs a museum downtown, so the Underground House would be his second. Until it opens, the spooky end of the Strip belongs to shows you can attend this week. Haunted Brunch plays at The Venue at Masquerade Village inside the Rio, with tickets from $47. It does not run Monday through Thursday, so plan it for a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Pairing it with a late show works well. Check Las Vegas shows happening tonight if you are in town now.
