About the Show
Show Highlights
Mike Campbell is one of rock’s most influential guitarists and songwriters, best known as a founding member of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers—a partnership that began in a Gainesville, Florida carport in 1972 and went on to define American rock music. As the band’s lead guitarist, Campbell co-wrote many of their biggest hits and co-produced several of their albums, helping create the timeless sound that continues to resonate across generations. His songwriting credits extend far beyond the Heartbreakers, having penned classics like Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer” and contributed to recordings by legends including Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison, and Johnny Cash.
In 2018, Campbell joined Fleetwood Mac on their world tour as lead guitarist, expanding his storied career even further. His longtime side project, The Dirty Knobs, became his primary musical focus in 2020 with the release of Wreckless Abandon, followed by External Combustion in 2022 and the brand-new Vagabonds, Virgins & Misfits featuring collaborations with Graham Nash, Chris Stapleton, Lucinda Williams, and fellow Heartbreaker Benmont Tench. The current Dirty Knobs lineup includes drummer Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), guitarist Chris Holt (Don Henley, The Eagles), and bassist Lance Morrison (Don Henley).
Campbell also recently published Heartbreaker, a fast-paced, heartfelt rock ’n’ roll memoir now a New York Times bestseller, chronicling his journey from humble beginnings to global stages. Live, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs deliver a powerful, authentic, and soulful rock experience that celebrates his legacy while forging an exciting new era.
