Traffic & Road Closures

The Strip closure is from Spring Mountain Road to the north to Tropicana Avenue to the south. No vehicle traffic will be allowed on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Spring Mountain Road or north of Tropicana Avenue.

All pedestrian bridges south of Spring Mountain Road to New York-New York and MGM Grand will be closed. Pedestrian bridges crossing Tropicana Avenue from New York-New York and MGM Grand will remain open.

The Strip closure will begin between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., with full the closure completed by 8 p.m.

All properties with access to Las Vegas Boulevard are to begin locking down and barricading Strip access drives between those times. The exact time will be coordinated through the Unified Resorts Intelligence Center virtual CP.

Rideshare

Uber and other rideshare services will be able to drop off registered hotel guests and those with venue reservations. Rideshares will only have pick-up services off Strip during The Strip closure starting at 6 p.m.

Closure Timeline

6:30 p.m. | NDOT/NHP begins soft freeway ramp closures

7:30 p.m. | Closure of all inbound roads, hotels close strip driveways, RTC buses moved into place 

8 p.m. | Strip secured 

midnight | Hotel marquee countdown/fireworks 

12:15 a.m. | Metro begins to clear pedestrians off Strip

1 a.m. | Begin taking back lanes 

2:15 a.m. | Reopen all roadways

12:15 a.m. All moving walkways, elevators escalators leading resume operation.

1 a.m. All celebrations normally subside. Barricade removal begins. Street sweepers will stage on Las Vegas Boulevard just north of the Tropicana intersection.

2 a.m. Street sweepers begin cleaning up, working from south to north and lanes reopened.

Las Vegas Monorail

The Monorail is the only public transportation operating on the Strip during the closure. Trains will continuously operate from 7 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 until 3 a.m. on Monday, Jan 2, 2024.

Mandalay Bay-Luxor-Excalibur Tram Hours

Saturday, Dec. 31

  • Tram 1 | 10 a.m.-11:45 p.m. (shut down for fireworks)
  • Tram 2 | 10 a.m.-8 p.m. approximate, based on when Metro shuts down walkways. Tram 2 will shut down when walkways shut down

Sunday, Jan. 1

  • Tram 1 | 1 a.m.-midnight approximate based on when walkways are reopened by Metro
  • Tram 2 | 1 a.m.-midnight approximate based on when walkways are reopened by Metro
